Cool pizza box invention

One of the coolest things I've seen! People who invent things are awesome, but people who re-invent things are even better! It only takes one person to say, "I think that there's a better way to do this..." and then presto, you've got this:

How cool is that!

Recent Teen Programs

We've been doing a lot of fun programs lately for teens! Some of the highlights have included:

Gifts for Mom and Dad- we decorated plastic ornaments, filled them with iced tea mix and hung them on decorated wooden peg boards.

April Showers Bring May Flowers- we made our own paper in fun shapes and textures using recycled bits of paper... even adding wildflower seeds to some so when they are buried, they will grow beautiful flowers.

And Social Networking for Teens- we learned the ins and outs of Myspace and Facebook while learning how to use these sites safely.

There are more programs still to come this Spring season: Comic Book Day, Mother/Teen Jewelry Making, Spring Teen Scrapbooking, Green Teens, Father/Teen Chili-Making. Check out our website program listing for all the details!

Albert Kim believes that he is living the normal life of an Asian. Study hard in school, stay out of trouble, be a good, smart and educated kid. Albert is doing all of this, but on top of that he has no life. Literally. Since starting Bern High-School after numerous moves in his life Albert has decided to become anti-social. And he is fine living his life like this and his parents don't notice a thing as long as his grades stay up. Then over the summer his parents force Albert to get a job. So Albert decides to work at a hotel under a man named Gino. Gino assigns Albert to work with Mia. Mia is a popular, smart girl at school who Albert would never imagine having to talk to let alone be locked up in a hotel room with her everyday moving and cleaning furniture. But soon Albert learns to get along with her and they find each other happy and in love when the summer comes to an end. But there's one problem. School is about to start and Albert is afraid that Mia will forget their amazing summer and he's wrong. Mia likes Albert and keeps him but Mia's long time ex-boyfriend Ryan Stackhouse- The House doesn't like it. He wants Albert out of the relationship so he can try and get back with Mia. This story is a twisted love story told through the eyes of one boy who went from years of anti-socialism to one school year of being the most talked about kid yet. This book is fabulous, entertaining and funny. I think that almost anyone in middle school or high-school, girl or boy would enjoy it and I would highly recommend it.

Teen Book Review: Sand Dollar Summer by Kimberly K. Jones and Remembering Raquel by Vivian Vande Velde

Sand Dollar Summer by Kimberly K. Jones
Reviewed by Nicole, Gr. 7

I just read the book Sand Dollar Summer by Kimberly K. Jones. It is about a girl named Lise LaMer. She lived with her mom and brother [who didn't even talk]. When her mom gets into a bad car crash, they move to an old house on Fiddle Island in Maine so she could rest. Lise has never seen the ocean, so she is very nervous. I would definitely recommend this book to find out what happens.

Remembering Raquel by Vivian Vande Velde

This book was a very interesting book. It showed what people might think about a person that they sort of knew if they died. This girl named Raquel dies in a car accident, and her friend, classmates, bystanders and family all show what they think about her and her death. I thought that this book is good to make you think about how you might be remembered if you died at a moment’s notice.

Happy Earth Day!

In celebration of Earth Day, here are two videos that show, through music and self-expression, that this world we live in is indeed a tiny place. We're all connected to one another no matter how far apart we live. And we all share this one planet, so it's in our best interest to make it work.

So for Earth Day, let's remember the traditional phrase "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle" and add to it "Reconnect."
