Imagine if the people who mattered to you most just got up and walked out of your life. How would you feel? Ruby feels terrible. Her father left her when she was a baby, her sister Cora left on her 9th birthday and now her booze-addicted mother has gotten up and left. After living 6 months alone with no legal guardians, Ruby a 17 year old child is forced to either go to foster care or live with her sister Cora who she has not seen in 10 years. Ruby goes to live with Cora and finds out that she is not who Ruby thought she would be. Cora and her husband Jaime are both loving respectful people and Ruby begins to live with them and go to private school and enjoy a life she never had. Then she meets Nate, the too-good-to-be-true boy next door. Ruby and Nate become friends and Ruby starts to suspect something about Nate. As Ruby tries to uncover the truth as to what Nate's dark secret is the truth about her true family is sought. This book takes you on a roller coaster of emotion and is really inspiring to read.
